Charles Williams

I’ve been creating visual stories of one kind or another for as long as I can remember. I spent most of my early years in country Victoria devouring movies (particularly Hollywood musicals and 70s cinema) and making short films (particularly bad imitations of others peoples’ work).

By 21 I’d made numerous short films, won the Best Young Director award at Tropfest, been mentored by Anthony Minghella in Romania (funded by Film Victoria and the AFC), was signed to a production company and had started directing TVCs.

Since then I’ve worked all around the globe making films, TV commercials and one long lost TV pilot.

What interests me most is contradiction; between the characters and their environments, between the realistic and stylistic elements, between the music and the images, and between all of the disparate collaborators trying to realise something abstract in a tangible way.

We get a little too precious in this industry. If you want to collaborate or have something to say, shoot me an email.
